Stopping the Mind from Spinning with the World
/

In this videoconference talk from 2 April, 2021, Ajahn Anan discusses the positive and negative aspects of a developed world and how we should relate to it.

“During the Buddha’s time, even though the world was not developed, it was very well-developed in terms of the mind. People had to travel with difficulty, go far distances and through the wilderness, yet many saw and knew the Dhamma. Now, the world is much more developed. These days you can learn the Dhamma, and there is all the technology (communications) to support it. But for those who don’t know and are deluded, there are many dangers.”

Separating the Mind from its Objects | Virtual Retreat Day 5 Morning
/

2021.03.10 | Just like clear water that has been mixed with dye, the mind gets coloured by the objects it experiences. If it meets with a sight or sound that is a basis for anger, the mind picks this up and turns angry. The same is true for love, hate and fear. When we can start putting these sense objects down, however, the mind separates from them, and returns to its clear, original state.

It's Natural for Lust and Anger to Arise | Virtual Retreat Day 3 Morning
/

2021.03.08 | It’s natural for lust, anger and delusion to arise, but what is really important is that we get to know them as they arise. If our mindfulness is well-established, then we can just know that they have arisen already. When we know that, then the mind is in a skillful place; the mind is skillful at that time.
