In this videoconference talk from 9 April, 2021, Ajahn Anan discusses the value of the Dhamma and how fortunate we are to have the conditions to practise it.
“The Buddha was the highest, the Supreme Teacher, complete in all ways and qualities, but his mind still inclined to have homage and respect. But he could not find anyone whom he could respect with regards to sila, samadhi, wisdom, liberation, among the human, deva, Brahma worlds, from all the Maras and Brahmas. He could not find any individual. So the Buddha respected and honored the Dhamma. And the past Buddhas after becoming Enlightened, respected and honored the Dhamma. And the future Buddhas who will attain Enlightenment, will respect and honor the Dhamma.”
In this talk, Ajahn Anan speaks about the importance of cultivating the true refuge of the Triple Gem rather than allowing the mind to get deluded by the false refuges of superstition, wealth, and entertainment.

Then many beautiful tales of Luang Pu Chah and his skill in guiding his disciples. One of them is about a train ride they had together to Bangkok, which illustrates the reverence and admiration Ajahn Anan has for his teacher.

When we endure the difficulties that present themselves in the initial stages of the practice, our hearts start to gain peace and clarity. They stop swinging between attraction and aversion, staying settled and centered, like a still pendulum.

2021.03.11 | One needs to see the drawbacks of Samsara, the endless cycle of wandering on. Time passes; the days are passing by and life is uncertain. When our time runs out, we are unable to do acts of merit anymore. So we need to train our minds to be firm in the doing of goodness, not to let go of one’s effort and get lost in the various moods and sense objects of the world.
