In this videoconference talk from 23 April, 2021, Ajahn Anan discusses the topic of humbling and lowering oneself, as well as a story of venerable Maha Kassapa.
“Respect and reverence is being aware of the goodness and virtue of others or of other things. And then one behaves to that person with respect and reverence, mainly shown through one’s body and speech. In regards to humility and lowering oneself, this is being aware of oneself and one is able to behave correctly and appropriately.”
2021.03.31 | The worldly winds come and go, and the mind that clings to them is tossed about in suffering. By seeing clearly and not attaching, the mind realizes peace and true happiness.

2021.03.30 | If we sincerely put in our efforts, always trying to be mindful, and meditating whenever we get the chance, it won’t be long at all until we see into the Dhamma.

2021.03.24 | The truth that the Buddha discovered pervades the whole universe. Through understanding its emptiness, our mind turns empty and leaves. But it doesn’t actually go anywhere; all of this happens within our heart.

2021.03.23 | If we have wisdom, all of the experiences we have—the things we see, hear and feel—can all become a source of knowledge and faith. The difficulty is when we have an undiscerning mind—everything we contact becomes a source of confusion and turmoil. This is why we must practise.

In this videoconference talk from 16 April, 2021, Ajahn Anan discusses the Buddha-nature of every person and how people aren’t high or low according to their birth.
“The Buddha taught that we people aren’t high or low according to our birth. This birth, if we practise goodness, practise with sila dhamma, morality, then we can be high on the level of the mind. We aren’t high or low because of the exterior. The Buddha’s teachings are like a stream of water, and those who learn Dhamma, will gain coolness and happiness. Drinking this water, their thirst will disappear.”
2021.03.22 | Those inclined towards wisdom should use that discernment to always be reflecting upon their experiences—who is the one talking? Who is the one listening? Everything is empty.
