2021.04.05 | If we live our lives without much awareness or attention, our minds will be unsettled and thinking without end. So we need to find some inner rest, and the place our hearts can relax and recharge is in the practice. Whether we use mantras or topics of contemplation, this path of meditation brings about calm and inner ease. This then forms a basis for the arising of insight.

2021.04.03 | In this talk, Ajahn Anan tells us of the ways that people can falsely believe in their attainments. For beings who have actually realized a stage of awakening, they won’t want to attach to it. They see that picking up anything—even awakening—is heavy and a cause of suffering. They understand that there is knowledge, but no one who knows.

2021.04.01 | Despite all the material development we’ve experienced, our hearts still suffer. No one has been able to invent a gadget to bring our minds to calm. The Buddha, however, gave us all the tools we need to realize true peace.

2021.03.28 | We practice restraint in virtue, to be mindful, to collect our minds in samadhi, and this allows the mind to see clearly that all conditioned phenomena are, by nature, unstable and ever changing. With this clear seeing, the mind realizes purity, Nibbana. Therefore, we have effort and firm intent to practise the Dhamma to see this for ourselves.

2021.02.14 | Love that is pure must abide within the bounds of morality. If it strays outside, it can cause much harm. We see the deep wish of all beings—ourselves included—to be happy, and so we act in ways that lead to joy and ease. If our love is bound up with attachment, however, it can morph into anger in an instant.

The things of this world never bring satisfaction and are never enough. Seeing this, and that one must leave behind everything at death, one seeks a wealth and happiness that does not decay.

2021.02.13 | Like dust in a house, sense impressions and our identification with them constantly come in and cover over the mind. We clean our minds with meditation. We also practise patient endurance when the mind is not at peace.
